Reset credentials on Wikimedia SUL User:SJ81 bis
Closed, DeclinedPublic

Description

I've lost my login credentials for this alternate account. I use the page at this link as proof of ownership: (diff page showing creation of user page at Ladino Wikipedia). Account has -0- global edits. I'd like to have the login credentials reset. Thank you.

I suggested @StevenJ81 to come here. If @Jalexander or @jrbs are confortable with the evidence provided or need more evidence I'm sure they'll contact you.

Question: all other requests to have 2FA or credentials reset (at least those I've participated in) where marked as private. Should we mark this as private too? I'm looking for some sort of standard criteria for further requests. Thanks.

jrbs moved this task from Backlog to Security/Privacy on the Trust-and-Safety board.

@StevenJ81: There does not appear to be an email attached to the alternate account. As such I am not sure what we can do to assist as there is no real way to prove this account belongs to you. I would honestly suggest that you select a different account name and use that instead. If you would like to, it is possible to usurp this username later through a request to the stewards.

@MarcoAurelio: I spoke with @Jalexander in-person. In this particular case there isn't much need to, but in future I'd advise doing so. Thanks!

Oh, I apologise, it looks like you did this already. I would still recommend this as the best course of action here if you really wish to keep this username as an alternate account - but it would be much easier to choose a new username :)

I'm not going to worry about it. I'm going to ask @MarcoAurelio to globally lock this, and we just won't worry further.

@jrbs There's a script in MediaWiki core that allows resetting email and password for an account. If the problem is that you cannot be convinced by the evidence of the edit linked here that this account belongs to the requestor then I have no objections but if it is for technical restrictions then please have a look at resetUserEmail.php and changePassword.php.
Regards.

Yeah, this is a combo of lack of ability to verify for sure and because the account has no edits most alternative ways of verifying ownership are either not possible or not practical (or just don't make complete sense).

Look, don't worry about it. I appreciate @MarcoAurelio's willingness to make suggestions. But I do have another alternative account that I already created. So I guess we can just leave the account alone to moulder. So at this point, my only question is whether or not Marco should globally lock it, just so nobody manages to hijack it. But I leave that up to him.
