It would be nice to be able to search not just for the title of the article to work on, but also for author names and DOIs. So someone with interest in a certain paper or set of papers (i.e. authors, but maybe also small publishers or journals searching their DOI prefix!) could immediately get a list of affected articles to work on.

I agree. Or academic librarians with institutions could upload a list of dois of their institutional authors and help link back to the open access copies in institutional repositories they run. I can imagine if this is done you would get quite a bit of academic librarians happy to join in as they benefit from the increased usage of their institutional repositories.

Pintoch pointed out that the current file-based cache is too slow compared to a user database, so this might take prohibitively long. However the infrastructure has since changed a lot, so who knows.
