Make it possible to convert from a list to a table (and vice versa)
Open, LowPublic

Description

Sometimes information starts as a list, and then you want to expand it into a multi-column table. It would be nice if this could be done at the touch of a button (or un-done, at least when the table only has one column).

This seems like a somewhat specialist use case. Even if we did have a tool it would not be obvious how to expose it to the user in a way that would be discoverable when you need it, but not confusing to new users.

I would suggest:

  1. Unlist to get multiple lines
  2. Paste in a spreadsheet editor
  3. Add columns, paste back into VE.

If I select multiple lines, and go to Insert > Table, could it ask me if I wanted to convert it to a table?

Ed, I realize that I'm just whingeing here, but I need this again, in the opposite direction. I've got links in a spreadsheet that I need to be links in a list. Or just plain 'paragraphs' of links. Just definitely not a table, and without losing the links (which is what all of the "remove formatting" options seem to do).
