@alanajjar: Please also note (I think) that the translations in MediaWiki's CLDR extension are directly pulled from the CLDR repository which is maintained by the Unicode consortium. You can see that data at http://unicode.org/repos/cldr/trunk/common/main/ar.xml

I am not sure in which cases Wikimedia accepts custom changes to names. You may want to ask on the i18n mailing list or on IRC to avoid spending time on preparing changes that might not get accepted. (Again, I don't know the criteria here, but the Internationalization/Language folks should know.)
