I can't edit and can't view preview: "ERR_CONNECTION_RESET"
Closed, InvalidPublic

Description

Since yesterday I can't edit, can't view preview of any page and can't patrol edits in all Wikimedia projects. I simply get ERR_CONNECTION_RESET in Chrome and get nothing in Mozilla (the request is stopped, the page remains in the same state). However, I can ping this sites, I can rename pages,I can revert edits from history page and I can edit Wikidata items.

This problem is relevant for any browser on my PC and even for my tablet on Android (all in my home network), it does not depend on logging in/out.

I'm the only user who has this issue now I know. It has been discussed in Russian Wikipedia whiout any resolve (best advice was to write here). I took part in discussion via TeamViewer from my PC at work. Even the Opera VPN did not help me, although I installed it today for this.

I don't know how to reproduce it, my internet provider told me that nothing had changed on his part past two days. But I noticed that MediaWiki 1.32/wmf.13 had been introduced yeasterday.

Hi @Seadick, thanks for taking the time to report this and welcome to Wikimedia Phabricator!

Has this problem been discussed already in a Technical Village Pump of a Wikimedia wiki, or the MediaWiki support desk?

Please also add a more complete description to this report. That includes a clear list of specific steps to reproduce the situation, describing actual results and expected results after performing the steps to reproduce, information about your web browser(s), and if the same problem happens on your devices when you use a different internet connection.
You can edit the task description by clicking Edit Task. Thanks!

Do you cleared cookies and cache memory in the browser(s)?

Yes, and I installed new other browsers, I used it in Private Mode. It didn't help.

I tested with teamviewer on his PC problems included in this task.. On non wmf projects, everything is ok.. On each wmf project, this problem happening

Please follow https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/How_to_report_a_bug and provide a clear list of steps to reproduce that leaves no room for interpretation, and the actual outcome.

Also, in Mozilla Firefox, can you please check the "network" tab of the Developer Tools and tell us at which call things hang and with which status? For more information please see https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Tools/Web_Console

That sounds like the problem could be the internet connection. So far I don't see something here that implies that this is a problem with Wikimedia code...

I will check network tab of the Developer Tools.

@Zoranzoki21: No need to announce it and create an unneeded Phab notification... You are free to check and then post your results. Thanks for helping here! :)

Chrome: Console no show errors.

In Mozilla page no reload. Page is same.

Nobody asked about the Console in Chrome. The question was about the 'network' tab content...

Network tab content in chrome. I thinked on that. I tryed to traceroute ru.wikipedia.org and en.wikipedia.org but there all looks ok..

Tested with x-wikimedia-debug extension for that browsers. Same behaviour.

To summary:

This user have google chrome up-to-date. I tested with x-wikimedia-debug, with private mode. I cleaned cookies and cache memory. Nothing is not changed..

Same with mozilla.

I cleaned and %temp% folder of system. I no see nothing wrong in mediawiki code. Anyone with ideas?

Aklapper renamed this task from I can't edit and can't view preview to I can't edit and can't view preview: "ERR_CONNECTION_RESET".Jul 18 2018, 9:05 PM

What you wrote in T199930#4436282: Checking the 'network' tab of the Developer Tools to see where things go wrong.

There are not errors or warnings.

Can you take a screenshot of the network tab ?

Sure. I will.

There are not errors or warnings.

In that case, see T199930#4435361 for all information required.

@Zoranzoki21: Again: No need to announce it and create another Phab notification. Please just do it. Then post your screenshot. Thanks.

I do not see any error related to code or a configuration that is on Wikimedia websites so far.
This seems to be a general support request so I am closing this task as invalid, as Wikimedia Phabricator/Maniphest is for bug reports and enhancement requests. Feel free to ask for support in an internet forum. Thanks for your understanding.

Please feel free to reopen this task if the problem also happens with the very same device(s) on a completely different internet connection.
