Unclear usage of —
Closed, DeclinedPublic

Description

Various elements are either preceded or followed by what looks like an em-dash, either literal or inserted by means of CSS, with or without a space, for no obvious or consistent reason. This style (?), if it were to be made internally consistent, is culturally dependent and should be subject to i18n.

Event Timeline

Relate to translation system - will be more apparent in upcoming updates.

On a page like https://wikimediafoundation.org/ar/about/contact/ (selecting ar after zh) I see for instance:

اتصل — 連接

Or in HTML

<h3 class="h3 color-gray uppercase">اتصل — <span>連接</span></h3>

(On the lack of directionality or language tagging, see T227636, T200742#5320718.)

Chinese punctuation cannot be assumed to have the same usage or meaning as English punctuation. (Let alone the punctuation for hundreds of languages.) I18n support is needed for such elements.
