I'm not 100% sure this is US specific, but the following is the issue (copied from https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Monuments/Help_desk#Confirmation_of_email_address_links_to_a_confusing_page_for_changing_your_email_address )
Starting out entering a new photograph for Wiki Loves Monuments USA 2018 https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:UploadWizard&campaign=wlm-us-other&categories=Images_from_Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2018_in_Wisconsin
After submitting, get "Your upload was successful." message at page https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:UploadWizard&campaign=wlm-us-other&categories=Images_from_Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2018_in_Wisconsin
This page has "Click here to confirm your email address." Which is a link to: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:ChangeEmail
This link then opens the "Verify your identity" page: https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:UserLogin&returnto=Special%3AChangeEmail&returntoquery=&force=ChangeEmail
The "Verify your identity" page has an empty field for Password, with boxed text “Enter your password.” After entering my password and clicking on the log in box I get the following page:
"Change or remove email address" https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:ChangeEmail
This page is confusing. It has the potential to have the email address removed (!) if one leaves this blank and clicks “Change email”.
I attached a screenshot of the link.
I suspect the email should instead point to https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:Preferences ? The language may also need to be adapted.
