After changing reading language on malayalam wikisource, some words in the side bar are still in Malayalam
Closed, InvalidPublic

Description

I am not sure whether this is the right place to ask my doubt regarding an issue with the main page of malayalam wikisource. Following is my problem:
When I visit the English wikisource page, I am able to all the items in English itself. When I click Malayalam wikisource and change my reading language to English(remember I am only changing my reading language and not the wikisource), many of those words are present in English among which I can see a lot of Malayalam words also. I would like to know how those words can be converted to English. Those words are present in the navigation panes.

Event Timeline

Hi, please always provide clear steps and specific links, as a list of ordered steps, which allow someone else to try to reproduce and to avoid misunderstandings, plus explicitly what's expected, and what happens instead:

Steps to reproduce:

  1. I go to https://en.wikisource.org/
  2. I go to https://ml.wikisource.org/
  3. I click ക്രമീകരണങ്ങൾ
  4. Under ആഗോളീകരണം > ഭാഷ:, I choose en - English
  5. I save by clicking സേവ് ചെയ്യുക at the bottom

Expected outcome:

  • Interface is in English

Actual outcome:

  • Many items in the left sidebar are still in Malayalam, starting with
പ്രധാന താൾ
പുതിയ താളുകൾ
പുസ്തകം ചേർക്കുക
സമകാലികം
ഏതെങ്കിലും താൾ

These items are defined in https://ml.wikisource.org/wiki/മീഡിയവിക്കി:Sidebar

@Adithyak1997: Are my steps to reproduce, actul outcome, expected outcome correct? Is this about the sidebar? Or also other elements? Which ones exactly?

The problem is currently solved as it can be done from my side now. I was actually unable to identify the template in which I need to make changes. Now I have understood that. I would like to inform you one more thing which is out of this topic. I am actually facing the issue of clarity in many cases of my everyday life also.

Great! How was it solved? Any links to share for others running into this problem and finding this task in the future? :)

Thanks for sharing that... That's why we ask people to structure their tasks into sections to help everybody to be more clear and (hopefully) save time. :)

Actually, I haven't resolved the problem yet. Since it is a mediawiki interface, it requires the work of interface admins(you might be knowing that). In Malayalam wikisource, there are no interface admins present. I am interested in becoming an interface admin and is currently waiting for the reply of lonely active admin(till yesterday) to respond regarding the time at which the election is going to be conducted next. Anyway, by editing the file mentioned by you, I am pretty sure it will solve the problem. Yet another problem that requires the work of interface admin was this one.

Not a general All-and-every-Wikisource problem, hence removing tag. See project description.

@Adithyak1997: Hi! This task has been assigned to you a while ago. Could you maybe share an update? Do you still plan to work on this task?
If this task has been resolved in the meantime: Please update the task status (via Add Action...Change Status in the dropdown menu).
If this task is not resolved and only if you do not plan to work on this task anymore: Please consider removing yourself as assignee (via Add Action...Assign / Claim in the dropdown menu): That would allow others to work on this (in theory), as others won't think that someone is already working on this. Thanks! :)

I cannot solve this problem as it requires edits from the part of Interface Admins I think

Currently there are no interface admins yet

Please contact interface admins; I'm afraid this is nothing to track in Phabricator as it is about changing on-wiki content.
