Huji triaged this task as High priority.Nov 2 2019, 1:11 PM

Since a key functionality is impacted, I am setting a high priority on this.

Another weird bug, huh. @Huji I was able to reproduce the same. Is this happening only with this particular file or any other files are rendering like this?

@Huji This file doesn't exist on Commons but fawiki. What does Commons have anything to do with this?

Anyway I now have exported this file to Commons. And for some reason, this file is being rendered 90° anti-clockwise. I also viewed the original image, and it appears the image is the one at fault here. It was rotated incorrectly from the beginning! The question is now why Mediawiki rendered it's low quality thumbnails correctly on fa-wiki.

What does Commons have anything to do with this?

That's added by a Herald rule - feel free to ask in T118234

Downloading the original file at https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/fa/2/2a/Imamzadeh_abbas.jpg , I get:

$:user\> exif Imamzadeh_abbas.jpg | grep Orientation
Orientation |Left-bottom
Aklapper renamed this task from Image is rotated 90 degrees to Image thumbnail orientation is incorrect for some sizes (rotated 90 degrees).Nov 2 2019, 1:34 PM
Aklapper raised the priority of this task from High to Needs Triage.

I've asked @Steinsplitter's bot to rotate the file on Commons. Let's see how the bot handles that.

Masumrezarock100 changed the subtype of this task from "Task" to "Bug Report".Nov 2 2019, 11:54 PM
Huji updated the task description. (Show Details)

@Masumrezarock100 and @Steinsplitter it seems like the file on Commons was not touched by the bot. I move the original file on fawiki to a different name so it can be retained for the purpose of this task.

$ exiftool T237156.jpg | grep Orientation
Orientation : Rotate 270 CW

For every size of the thumbnail, upscaled and downscaled, I see the image rotated exactly as the metadata instructs.

@Huji, does this issue still exist or has it been fixed?

Huji claimed this task.

@AntiCompositeNumber now it is rotated 90 degrees to the left (well, technically, 270 degrees to the right) everywhere. So we are consistent. Marking it as resolved.
