This is relatively easy for the core wikitext editor and the 2010 wikitext editor, but it's absurdly difficult (or even impossible, currently) for the 2017 wikitext editor.

Unassigning myself as I feel that this task (as originally proposed) would add unnecessary complexity to the script. Working with the 2010 editor is fine, but the 2017 wikitext editor is just too much of a beast for me (btw, how would we even do this for the core editor?). No opinion on adding a link to Page tools, I could do it if there's a consensus for it.
