I think the wording in diff-multi kind of sucks, and maybe $n and $dbr->numRows() should be thrown through $wgLang->formatNum().

Yeah $wgLang->formatNum() is needed.
Also, I think we want to know if the intermediate users are just 1 user *and* that it's the same as the user on right-side of the diff.
I might also use a LIMIT 100 clause (and use "100+" as needed) to avoid problems with using diff=cur&oldid=<super old edit> on [[India]] or [[George Bush]].
