Wikitech Usernames of requestors: dcaro

How soon you are hoping this can be fulfilled: as soon as possible :)

Event Timeline

Hi, as far as I know, we generally do not grant Cloud VPS projects for single user development use (and the name here implies that this is the case). The reasoning is that Cloud-VPS virtual machines are a constrained resource, and we do not have the ability to provide a VM for any and all Wikimedia technical contributors for personal use. See also https://wikitech.wikimedia.org/wiki/Help:Cloud_VPS_project#Guidelines_for_project_requests for more information.

Hi @Aklapper, I'm a member of the WMCS team, and I need the project to do preliminary tests for automation of maintenance and operational tasks on openstack/toolforge/etc.

This task is for myself, to both, get the test project and learn the process of requesting/provisioning a new cloud vps project.

I could currently use an existing project for the tests, but I really prefer start with a test one to avoid creating downtime/problems on any existing projects in case something gets broken (that most probably will, as that's part of the learning how to automate, handling errors).

In that case a non-personal instance name might be worth considering.

Not needed, will work around it using testlabs project instead.

Sounds good. Several years ago it was common for WMCS team members to have their own projects for experiments, but we decided around 2018 or or so that we should follow the same rules that we ask everyone else to follow. That really just means making targeted projects tied to a technology or service rather than a person. If it turns out that testlabs can't support the things you are trying out, open a new project request focused on openstack automation and that should be reasonably simple to approve.
