Request to create new mailing lists for ZHAFC Project
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

  • Requested name of the mailing list (ending in @lists.wikimedia.org): afc-zh@lists.wikimedia.org and afc-zh-reviewer@lists.wikimedia.org
  • Reasoning/explanation of purpose:

After our internal discussions (AFC Project), we thought it would be better to use a mailing list for easy notification and contact (afc-zh-reviewer), which we thought would make it easier for other reviewers who do not have Telegram to participate in private discussions. As for the afc-zh mailing list, this mailing list is used to help draft submitters ask questions when the "Help Desk" is protected by the administrators, and to use email to get a reply as soon as possible.

We also considered the feasibility of VRT (afc-zh), but abandoned this option due to recent restrictions imposed by the Wikimedia Foundation on certain regions, which would have prevented some reviewers in mainland China from participating in the answer process.

And if you would like to be kept informed of the discussion process, please let me know. (This is a private discussion and you will need to have a Telegram account)

Note: afc-zh-reviewer is supposed to be a private mailing list, while afc-zh is a public mailing list.

Thank you!

@LClightcat can you explain why this was a private discussion rather than a public discussion on-wiki? I think we'd prefer the latter unless there's a good reason not to.

Also the secondary list administrator's address is the same as the primary address.

Well... This list create is per us another talk. (Part of the reform discussion, and it is public on wiki) During the reform discussions, we saw the need to create more ways to contact, and because of the vast majority of "active reviewers" and the five regular members (i.e. those who have the authority to make decisions) in the Telegram group and Telegram's instant replies and easy notifications, we chose to initiate the motion in the Telegram reviewers group, and we have a vote counting bot to help us with the proposal.

And since the proposal was made in the Telegram group, we thought it should be discussed "where it was raised" and, as mentioned above, Telegram is a better place for discussion, without the influence of "editorial conflicts", so we can have a broader discussion on a particular issue.

Still, as mentioned earlier, the vast majority of active auditors (in fact, I should say all of them.) The vast majority of active reviewers (in fact, all of them.) are on Telegram, so it is possible to reach a "consensus among reviewers" on Telegram and not be influenced by Vandalizers.

I think I has been clarify why, and if you have further questions, please ask.

Regards

Note: About secondary list administrator's address plz set it to agsiwm@gmail.com

To be clear, what kind of on-wiki dissociation will SRE like to see? Will we need to do that on VP? Or consensus between reviewers is fine? If on-wiki dissociation is needed, we can do that.

@Legoktm Well....to avoid you not noticing, I ping you.(I'm sorry to disturb you) I would like to know whether the reasons I submitted will be accepted by SRE? Or what else do I need to do?

Given that this is an on-wiki project, I mostly want to make sure that people on-wiki are aware of this request to create a private discussion mailing list.

It has passed and expired the publicity period. Now that the common view has been expressed on the wiki, please create these two lists, Thank you.

I have announced that we will create both private and public mailing-list in the discussion and we have a clear consensus, thanks for your help.

@Legoktm Well.... a week... Maybe you didn't notice?

Sorry about delays - I was going to create the mailing lists just now and realized they don't fit our guidelines for names (https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Mailing_lists/Standardization) - would wikipedia-zh-afc@ and wikipedia-zh-afc-reviewer@ be OK?

@Legoktm Of course, please do so. I first saw that the project page can customize the mailing list name, so this is the case. Sorry for the trouble.

Both lists have been created, please update the description and any other settings as necessary (or re-open if something is totally wrong)

Please also add the list to https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Mailing_lists/Overview#Local_Wikipedia_mailing_lists - thanks!
