`Back to ...` buttons should lead users back to where they came from
Closed, DuplicatePublic

Description

When navigating to a List Revision from the Audit Logs, the button in the top right reads (and leads to), "Back to list history". I would assume users would rather go back to the Audit Logs, if that is where they came from.

I am uncertain if this is a problem elsewhere in the application, but it would probably be nice, and more intuitive, if all "back" buttons navigated backwards through the navigation history, rather than leading to a fixed destination.

That is what the browser's back/forward navigation buttons are for.

I personally find the various "Back to ..." buttons to be unhelpful, but we were asked to add them as part of the UX/design review (T286164: Implement UI changes suggested during design review).

I like the "back to..." buttons, especially on mobile, but not when they lead to unintuitive behavior.

Is this because your mobile browser of choice has hard to find/hard to use history navigation buttons or for some other reason?

Yes, mainly for this reason.
