@Pyb pointed out that the French Wikipedia article Cookie (informatique) has been receiving millions of desktop page views per day since mid-July. These views are classified as "user", so they're not detected as bot activity even though they almost certainly are.

The impact is significant. As a fairly representative example, on 1 Sep, this article accounted for about 1.5% of total Wikipedia "user" pageviews across all languages!
