In Firefox, the keyboard shortcuts for own contributions and own user talk have no effect while the menu is collapsed
Closed, DuplicatePublicBUG REPORT

Description

Steps to replicate the issue (include links if applicable):

  • Press the accesskey for your own contributions (Alt++Y on Windows or Linux, ++Y on Mac) while on any page.
  • Click on the "user" menu near the top right of the screen, then repeat the keyboard shortcut.

What happens?:
The first shortcut has no effect. The second shortcut highlights the entry "Contributions" in the menu (note: It should navigate, but that's another bug, see T311281).

What should have happened instead?:
The first shortcut should have navigated to Special:Contributions/<username>.

Software version (skip for WMF-hosted wikis like Wikipedia):

Other information (browser name/version, screenshots, etc.):
Browser: Firefox 109.0.1

The immediate cause of this is intentional Firefox behaviour (https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=136041), which does not activate invisible accesskeys, but this works as expected in Chrome, which does activate them. There's really no point in having accesskeys if you need to click in order to use them, so I think this should be worked around somehow.

Thanks for the bug. This is more or less the same bug as T318305. At some point I think we need a generic bug that makes access keys work reliably (See developer notes 1 for a generic solution here).
