Wikipedia iOS app - Stop the app from recording browsing and search history
Open, Needs TriagePublicFeature

Description

Feature summary (what you would like to be able to do and where):
I would like to be able for the app to not record searches I’ve searched and articles I’ve read.

Use case(s) (list the steps that you performed to discover that problem, and describe the actual underlying problem which you want to solve. Do not describe only a solution):
I have to manually clear my searches and articles. There is nothing in the app that allows you to make this change.

Benefits (why should this be implemented?):
It should be implemented to protect users privacy.

Event Timeline

If done, this is probably best an application option (some sort of 'private browsing mode') - not the only behavior for the app.

Thanks for making this task @Interstellarity and for your feedback @Xaosflux , I want to make sure I understand the concern. Is it correct that the concern is we (WMF) are tracking (and potentially saving) your browsing and search history on our server in a way that we can read it?

If that is the case, then I will say, we do not track or capture your history on the server side. It is stored locally for your personal use, and I'd proceed to close this ticket.

If the privacy concern is that someone may pick up your phone and see your browser history, then the approach to this ticket would be different. Perhaps we can add a setting to auto clear your search history locally so you won't have to do it manually by clearing the cache or deleting it within the search.

I think as described elsewhere this is the later, wanting to be able to have the client-side history not stored (possibly clear-on-exit or the like), Interstellarity should be able to tell the user story better on that.
