User story & summary:
As the Campaigns team, I want to better understand newcomer use of Newcomer homepage topics, so that I can decide if this data can be used to surface relevant events to new editors.
Background & research:
This task is important because:
- Campaign organizers want to surface events to editors interested in the topic of their campaign.
- New editors will be more successful if they find ways to get more involved in the Wikimedia movement.
Analysis:
- Data on current use: How many newcomers specify at least one topic of interest?
- Data on current use by topic: What is the breakdown of number of accounts interested in each topic?
- Data on use by new account holder, activated newcomer, and newer experienced editor?
- Data on use on mobile vs. desktop (users on mobile are less likely to have topic set because they don’t have to select a topic to initiate the module, whereas desktop users do.)
- Data on GLAM (topic intersection work)
Acceptance Criteria:
Follow up with Campaigns on definitions as needed (newcomer, experienced newcomer, etc.)
Provide analysis based on the above data needs.
