The project started in 2006 to transfer MediaWiki documentation from Meta to mediawiki.org appears to be complete. (Meta:MetaProject to transfer content to MediaWiki.org is marked as historical and meta:Category:Pages to be exported to MediaWiki.org is empty, with the exception of a few translation pages.) This tasks tracks places on mediawiki.org where references to this project need to be removed or changed.
In researching this task, I found that, although the original project has been completed, there are a few instances where MediaWiki help documentation still exists on Meta. In most cases, this content can no longer be directly imported to mediawiki.org because a page already exists there, due to licensing restrictions, or because the content is incorporated into Wikimedia-specific content that should remain on Meta. In the long term, it would be great to work on deduplicate this content between the two sites. Since the original project was centered around importing pages directly, I've opted to capture this de-duplication work as a separate project instead of trying to re-open the original project.
To do:
- Create a project page for de-duplicating content between Meta and mediawiki.org: Project:MediaWiki documentation on Meta-Wiki
- Remove links or references to Meta:MetaProject to transfer content to MediaWiki.org from:
- Project:Help
- Project:Tasks
- Project:Language policy
- Project:Manual
- Template:Manual Project header
- Delete Category:Pages recently transferred from Meta and Template:MoveToMediaWiki (pending until August 29)
