In my understanding, https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Gadget_kitchen covers all of this (but might welcome some restructuring and/or renaming).

Hi @Aklapper! Curious about your thoughts on this: https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Gadget_kitchen covers gadgets in general, as applies to any MediaWiki instance. I was thinking there was a need for a page specific to the gadgets used on mediawiki.org, something similar to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Gadget, that says "This is the mediawiki.org process for proposing a new gadget" instead of leaving users to guess whether they should post to Requests, Village pump, MediaWiki talk:Gadgets-definition, etc. Similar to the difference between https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:Creating_a_bot and https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Project:Bots

Ah, I see. And I misunderstood.
So creating Project:Gadgets for "This page describes the process for proposing a gadget to become available for use on mediawiki.org listed in every user's preferences under https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-gadgets ". Versus general info about how gadgets work (and maybe getting rid of that weird "kitchen" metaphor by renaming the page) on https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Gadget_kitchen .

I wasn't aware of https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Project:Requests which seems to be about user roles and gaining permissions but also blurry "other miscellaneous requests" (hmm).
I was aware of https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Project:Village_Pump which is more lively than I remembered.
I'd boldly #REDIRECT https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/MediaWiki_talk:Gadgets-definition to either Project:Village_Pump for gadget proposals discussion and potential rough consensus (whatever that means) or Project:Requests for requesting action, because basically every single wiki page, no matter which namespace it's in or what's its obscure or unclear purpose, also has a talk page that nobody might ever watch or reply on (thanks to too much venue fragmentation).

I'd also announce/summarize this very task on https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Project:Village_Pump at some point.

It turns out that the process for proposing a gadget on mediawiki.org is currently on the Gadget kitchen page under Deploying or enabling a gadget. However, I do think that the Project namespace is a better fit for the content described in this task. I've gone ahead and started Project:Gadgets and a corresponding talk page post to see if others feel the same. Comments welcome!

I really don't think this is necessary. Changes to gadgets on MediaWiki.org (and most other WMF wikis) are sufficiently rare to not need a formal process.
