In the page translation feature, I like to 'show my work' in the page history. This means that I would publish a version as soon as possible, before making all the edits. The advantage is that I have access to many more advanced tools that the translation interface does not have, while still benefiting from all the initial boost that the page translation tool can give, including connecting links to the right pages and sorting out the references and templates.
Currently, when I try to do this, I keep getting errors because I have too much 'unchanged' text (not sure if this is the exact phrase in English, as I get the message in Dutch). Reproduce:
On nlwiki go to your edits, translations, enter an article in enwiki that doesn't exist in nlwiki and select translate. Click on all the sections to trigger initial translation. Select 'sandbox' as destination.
This is a good safety feature to keep the community off the developers' back in complaints that the tool is overused by newcomers, but I wonder if there's not a better way to give experienced editors a way to integrate this tool more efficiently in their workflows (e.g. the translate tool is harder to create some links, integrate different templates, move text between sections or switch between source and visual).
