Software version (skip for WMF-hosted wikis like Wikipedia):

Other information (browser name/version, screenshots, etc.):

I made a number of images on 2019-09-07 this images have the date 2019-09-07 in the file descripiton and in SDC, I don't think, that mediasearch should return a single image from an other date than 2019-09-07 - but at least it should return images from 2019-09-07 as the first and most prominent results

I did put plenty effort into puting the date into SDC (in the image. or in the cat that contains the image) so that it is possible (for me and for others) to put a date or a time frame in the search input field and a place or a (user) name, so that i can find images from this date or time frame. I was under the impression, that MediaSearch will do exactly that.

I did not think it possible that Mediasearch only return images from other dates even so i have media from that date and the date is in the SDC.

I'd guess that the - symbols in your search query cause it to be negated. If you put the date in quotes it works https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?search="2019-09-07"+C.Suthorn&title=Special:MediaSearch&go=Go&type=image

It does work with "2222-22-22". It does also work with "2222/22/22" but it does not work with 2222/22/22

If it is meant to be this way, there needs to be a manual on the search page (with pulsating neon letters in 70 p letter size) to tell people about it.

If it is meant to be this way, that is a terrible design decission.

Likely it will also not work with 22. Zweiundzwangigember 2222 also.

While it does work with full dates with the quotes, it does not work with a date like "2019-09" and i have actually no idea how i would query for a range like 2017-09-12 to 2023-01-14, or even for a range with time?

MediaSearch does not do that - here is a summary of how MediaSearch works. Maybe you can get what you need from https://commons-query.wikimedia.org/ ?
