I share here a brief analysis of the extensions related with the discussion feature. My first idea was to propose you to use Flow/StructuredDiscussions, but as I indicates below, this extension is unmaintained at this moment.

I admit that it is sad to see that this great extension is not actively maintained, because I think it is one of the most interesting approaches to have functional talk pages. But to use an unmaintained extension isn't a good idea.

LiquidThreads

This extension is interesting but historically, at least in my opinion. It provides a good way to handle threads on a talk page, however it is very old and unmaintained. But I wanted to mentioned to show as "alternative".

In my honest opinion, it is the best extension the project can choose to manage the talk pages because:

• It is maintained and with a stable release status.
• Its development is very active, checks its commits history.
• It is developed by the Wikimedia's Editing team, so it has a really good and stable team working on it.

I don't want to extend a lot because this extension has a really good comparison table in which it is possible to check the features of this one in relation with the traditional talk pages, LiquidThreads and StructuredDiscussions.

Next step I can check is to review the configuration of DiscussionTools to asses what can be more interesting and suitable for our case.

@Olea, is there some peculiarity we need to handle in relation with the discussions/talk pages? Maybe something you would like to have or that maybe useful for this use case.

About themes, have you any requirement?

A good option may be choose a theme like Chameleon, which offers a base skin that can works out of the box, but also provides interesting ways to customize it.

I think this could be followed in T363556. But, first, there I would need help to identify the schema of the mediawiki artifacts. I think this other discussion could be relevant.

My only concern now is to have a mature stable extension. The more friendly, the better, but I also think DiscussionTools seems the only alternative. Would you try to add it to this Wikibase configuration? In that branch you'll find examples I've added. Also, there are instructions. It's very dirty adding the code of the extensions to the repo, but is the clearer approach I've found till now. But the goal is to have a running prototype just now and to clean the conf in the next months.
