Subscribe Elton to Internal mailing list for Meta-Wiki oversighters
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

Hello. Could you please subscribe me to the "Internal mailing list for Meta-Wiki oversighters"? Is it this one? 7 (seven) days after my election as a Meta-Wiki oversighter, wiki access and VRT queue access have been already set up correctly, but I am still not subscribed to the "Internal mailing list for Meta-Wiki oversighters" and no attempt to contact me from a mailing list admin has been made so far. Instead, I am listed as a "nonmember" on Oversight-wp-simple. I think some mistake has been made. I only use the "Primary email" (registered on "Postorius") for every mailing list on Wikimedia.

@Elton: Per https://lists.wikimedia.org/postorius/lists/meta-oversight.lists.wikimedia.org/ , have you tried

To contact the list owners, use the following email address: meta-oversight-owner@lists.wikimedia.org

I've thought this had already been done, according to the diff I linked above: "[...] The mailing list admin should contact you to verify which email address you would like to be subscribed under. [...]", but I've contacted them now, per your suggestion. Do we put this task on hold (stalled?) to give them time to reply? I'm unsure how best to proceed.

I'll wait for a bit to see if they respond to you, if not, then ping me here and I take care of it.

Can't you simply subscribe yourself using the form on https://lists.wikimedia.org/postorius/lists/meta-oversight.lists.wikimedia.org/ ?

Or is it that they don't approve your subscription request?

But also I think this may be relevant here: I noticed this comment on the page above:

"Note: The team is no longer using this address to handle suppression requests. Please email oversight-meta@wikimedia.org instead."

I checked on oversight-meta@wikimedia.org and it's a VRTS (formerly OTRS) queue, not a mailman list or Google inbox. So this looks like it should now be handled as a ticket in https://ticket.wikimedia.org by the admins there.

I've received a response from the list owner and now I'm subscribed. I think this task can now be closed as resolved. I'd like to thank you all for the help. With that being said, I've noticed that the archives of the mailing list are publicly viewable (as of March 2024?), though no messages are shown. I've discovered this when clicking the "Archives" button before being subscribed. This could be a serious security breach. Please mark the list as private, if it isn't already, before closing the task. Thank you in advance.

Please do correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't the VRTS queue for handling suppression requests and the "internal mailing list" for private discussion amongst the team (similar to Privacy-fr-wp)?

This is something that the list owners would configure. Since you are already in contact with them, could you tell them? To me the list looks unused though and as you say there are no messages in it and it also shows 0 threads or discussions.

Sorry, I don't know. All I read was the message by the list owners that "The team is no longer using this address to handle suppression requests. .." and then I can tell where that other list is hosted. That's all I know, but it would make sense if it's like you suggested. This would be another question for the list owners.

Not an admin in that mailing list, but admin everywhere. I checked and the repo is set not to store any archive, which is why you're not seeing anything while it's pretending to be public:
