Error creating thumbnail: convert: Expected 8 bytes; found 0 bytes
Closed, DeclinedPublic

Description

Error creating thumbnail: convert: Expected 8 bytes; found 0 bytes `/tmp/localcopy_7075a0c15d47-1.png' @ warning/png.c/MagickPNGWarningHandler/1335.
convert: Read Exception `/tmp/localcopy_7075a0c15d47-1.png' @ error/png.c/MagickPNGErrorHandler/1309.
convert: corrupt image `/tmp/localcopy_7075a0c15d47-1.png' @ error/png.c/ReadPNGImage/3294.

convert: missing an image filename `/tmp/transform_5eddba096f3d-1.png' @ error/convert.c/ConvertImageCommand/3011.

And locally with ImageMagick 6.7.5-6 2012-08-11 Q16:

identify: Expected 8 bytes; found 0 bytes `/tmp/magick-32o5zvzE' @ warning/png.c/MagickPNGWarningHandler/1754.
identify: Read Exception `/tmp/magick-32o5zvzE' @ error/png.c/MagickPNGErrorHandler/1728.
identify: corrupt image `/tmp/magick-32o5zvzE' @ error/png.c/ReadPNGImage/3701.

So the image looks/is corrupt, but unlike others in https://toolserver.org/~dispenser/temp/logs/cache_thumbs_errors.log , which I've reported as corrupt for fix or deletion, renders fine with Firefox for me.

Right now I get the same outcome as for bug 41373 on this one (file not displayed in Firefox, just "Error 500 Internal Server Error").

Thanks for the bug report.

It's low-priority that MediaWiki is erroring in handling corrupt images.

As discussed with Aaron, RobLa and Sumana:
As this specific image looks corrupt, we won't put resources into investigating how to make underlying upstream software used by Wikimedia more lenient again. Hence there are currently no plans to change this behavior. Contacting the author of that file and reuploading a non-broken version is welcome.
