Is there any local consensus to have this enabled? Did other users of the wiki (and WMF communication staff in particular) have a look at this proposal & say whether it'll be useful/acceptable for them?

[[mw:Extension:RSS]] suggests you only need to set $wgRSSAllowImageTag to true to allow images in feed items. $wgAllowImageTag appears to be intended for use in wikitext as a whole, ie. outside of feed items.
