The Wikipedia Education Program (where educators help their students to improve Wikipedia articles) uses a number of tools to help manage Wikipedia classroom projects. We use the Education Program extension, and we have plans to gradually transition to using a more general Campaigns system to organize and monitor classroom projects in the future. There's plenty of do in terms of squashing important bugs, redesigning interfaces, building new features, and connecting the Wikipedia Education Program tools to Wikimetrics.
Possible project goals:
- Conduct need-finding interviews, then create a new design for course pages that better meets user needs. (This could be strictly a design project, or both a design and development project.)
- Make course pages easier to use and easier to edit. Tracked in Bugzilla
- Bug 43859
- Improve the integration of course pages with the rest of Wikipedia Tracked in Bugzilla
- Bug 43975
- Connect the EducationProgram extension to Campaigns (which in turn connects to Wikimetrics)
Relevant micro-tasks (pick any):
- Students doesn't list accurate enrollment dates
- Edits to course pages show up in Special:Contributions
- Pressing Cancel on Special:Disenroll shows incorrect message
- Course talk page should be automatically added to a user's watchlist
Relevant skills and mentors:
- Skills: PHP, JavaScript, design (optional), Python (optional for working with Wikimetrics)
- Mentors: Sage Ross (Wiki Education Foundation), Andrew Green (WMF)
