It's a tradeoff between showing "enough" information and showing less but complete information. Personally I'm fine with how things currently are.

Sometimes there are only two full words. This is not enough. And there are devices without a mouse to point at the shortened title.

The current "elide" behavior is the result of a previous request and is a conscious design decision from upstream. This was discussed in T980: Task cards clip titles rather than wrapping.
