Hi Sherah - I'll discuss with Abbey about bandwidth.
Off top though, I think this is doable via guerrilla; 5-6 should be sufficient.
About a protocol - I'll need to think through quick scenarios that'll help answer questions indirectly. Re the questions see in-line.
QUESTIONS:
Can a user understand how to navigate to destination article from the preview?
good to go
Did the preview provide enough context to be useful? (Did the user still need to go to the next article to get the information they needed) - it might be use to think about this in terms of “hits” and “misses”.
this will depend on circumstance. we can do a quick scenario for both a quick fact and more specific information, but i think this will be a self-fulfiliing prophecy-type question.
Did the preview experience feel like a quick lookup?
we can ask what users felt the purpose of the link preview was.
Did it detract from the main article, or did it feel like it enabled you to get more context?
good to go. similar to 'articulate their opinion of it and when they would find it useful/not' (and when). vibha can probably get some of her use-case specific answers here.
In terms of link preview research, what we can do is build a scenario to test for participants' understanding of what is going on when the link preview pops up in navigation, and if they understand how to exit out of it and move forward within it, and possibly articulate their opinion of it and when they would find it useful/not.
