videoscaler naming conventions
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

In eqiad, the videoscalers are named tmh1001 and tmh1002, and this is documented at https://wikitech.wikimedia.org/wiki/Infrastructure_naming_conventions
But in codfw it seems that mw2007 and mw2152 have been set up as videoscalers. This should probably be made consistent. Maybe when those eqiad ones get reinstalled in T104747 they can be renamed to mw*?

Or looking at it the other way shouldn't the codfw boxes be renamed inline with the naming conventions?

Renaming the eqiad boxes to mw* would make more sense, in my opinion. The Puppetization of application server roles has been moving in the direction of increasing convergence (rather than divergence and differentiation). This is a good thing because it allows us to be more elastic -- we can easily repurpose machines based on demand.
