Description

This is a heavy flaw a Extension:HitCounters is ment to be a workaround for the fatal decsion to kill the old hit counter.

How am I supposed to display the page view count in the page's footer?

Will [[Special:PopularPages]] populate from scratch?

This flaw makes the extension useless.

How can this be fixed if it happened to me and page.counter is removed on MW update (before HitCounters installation)?

Than you should provide more information:
Which version of 1.25 you have installed?
Which database you are using?

For mysql there is no drop for the page_counter in the REL1_25
