'Mark as read' in notifications needs a tooltip

Description

I have no idea what clicking the 'X' in notifications actually does. Maybe it:

Hides that notification from the drop-down menu
Deletes that notification completely (both from the drop-down and Special:Notificaitons)
Unsubscribes me from notifications about that particular page or user

Please add a tooltip so that I can know what it does.
