Install Mediawiki plugin for Wikimedia Etherpads to allow exporting content to wiki markup
Closed, DuplicatePublic

Description

Hi, I thing we are not using this cool plugin for our Etherpads: https://www.npmjs.com/package/ep_mediawiki

Event Timeline

@Lluis_tgn: Nobody stops you to install whatever you want on your own servers. :)
However if this is about the http://etherpad.wikimedia.org/ then please provide a description what the plugin does and which actual current problem(s) it might solve, as we don't install random software (to be maintained) because we love to install random software. So currently this task proposes a solution but does not describe any problem. :-/

Hi, the plugin allow to export etherpad to wikitext. You can work together in realtime on etherpad.wikimedia.org and then export and paste the result in a wiki page. As I understand.
However the version of etherpad in the wikimedia farm is old, the new version has intersting features about format, comments, etc. Will be usefull to have it updated.

Aklapper renamed this task from Mediawiki plugin for Wikimedia Etherpads to Install Mediawiki plugin for Wikimedia Etherpads to allow exporting content to wiki markup.Nov 28 2016, 6:32 PM

Thanks! I've updated the task summary to describe a problem. :)

For what is worth and assuming this is for https://etherpad.wikimedia.org, we are not using ANY etherpad plugin and chances are we will not anytime soon. The reasons behind this used to be that the installation, support, maintenance and stability of various plugins was very bad in the past leading to errors and crashes. For posterity's sake, that has in the past been noted in T49754 (which is an already rejected duplicate of this), T32240#354331 and T59996. Very little seems to have changed since then unfortunately.

If I may, which installation are you referring to ? The installation at https://etherpad.wikimedia.org which is what I would call the "wikimedia" etherpad is at the latest released etherpad version (1.6.0) and does not have that plugin installed (or any other for that matter).
