What other relevant checks are done here?

Plural should be used always when there is a non-constant whole number.
Quoting http://www.gnu.org/software/automake/manual/gettext/Plural-forms.html :

In Polish we use e.g. plik (file) this way:

1 plik
2,3,4 pliki
5-21 pliko'w
22-24 pliki
25-31 pliko'w
...

EN done in r39602, I assume BW will update things as normal.
