WDCM Overview Dahsboard Review
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

Hi,

the changes that you have suggested are now incorporated to the WDCM Overview Dashboard:
http://wdcm.wmflabs.org/WDCM_OverviewDashboard/

I still need to expand upon the Description section, which essentially presents the Dashboard User Manual.

Please review the following changes:

  • A dynamic semantic map of client projects is introduced under the 'Explore' tab, as suggested; the static map is moved under 'Highlights';
  • Short verbal descriptions/guidelines for each chart are expanded upon on; an explanation of percentile ranks is introduced for the 'Client Projects Usage Volume' chart;
  • Brewer color sets are used to maximize the visual separability between project types; inconsistent color mappings are eliminated;
  • Row separation in the Client Project Types chart should now be more obvious;
  • A new table for client project Wikidata usage is introduced at the bottom of the Dashboard.

    Thanks.

Awesome! This looks great :) I also tested it with an unsuspecting victim in the office here and they said they understood the descriptions so I think they are good as well now.

One question: What is the reason to have the additional Client Project Usage Tabulation table? Can't I get all the same data in the Client Project + Semantic Category Usage Cross-Tabulation table?
One change request: remove testwikidatawiki

  1. The Tables
  • The tables differ in the following way: (A) Client Project + Semantic Category Usage Cross-Tabulation table presents Wikidata usage (the Usage column) per project *and* per category; you cannot know the per project total Wikidata usage from it, but only how much does a particular project use Wikidata *from a particular category*; (B) The Client Project Usage Tabulation table presents per project total Wikidata usage (its Usage column, for each respective projects, gives a sum of Wikidata usage across all semantic categories).
  • The data presented in these two tables correspond with the design of the charts directly above them: the left chart is a projects x categories cross-tabulation, except for it is aggregated across project types in order to be able to visualize the data effectively, while the right chart presents the ranking of client projects on Wikidata usage.
  1. remove testwikidatawiki
  • this goes to the General WDCM To Do List, because WDCM data structures are quite general (in order to be re-usable across the WDCM Dashboards and any further applications), so that the changes of this type are allowed only on the deepest level of data acquisition. The change will be introduced with the next WDCM update.

Ahhhh that makes sense. I didn't check if the numbers were different...

@Lydia_Pintscher

Thanks.

@johl can you give it a try in Safari please?

Safari? Please let's have a look at it and we close this then. @Lydia_Pintscher

I can see no difference between this in Safari and how it's rendered in Firefox. All is good. @Lydia_Pintscher @GoranSMilovanovic
