Page previews sometimes shows a vandalized older revision of article
Closed, DeclinedPublic

Description

It was reported at https://fi.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia:Kahvihuone_(tekniikka)&oldid=17455432#Sauli-Arabia? that the page previews tool showed an old version of an article. Unfortunately that was a version where the lead section was vandalized. Even though it was immediately reverted back to good version (https://fi.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Suomi&diff=next&oldid=17452694) the page previews wanted to show the vandalized version (over 30 hours after revert).

The page is also set to show the stable version and not the latest version (https://fi.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Toiminnot:Vakauta_sivu&page=Suomi&uselang=en).

After a null edit was done, the lead section was correct in page previews.

There's no local caching of page previews, so it will display whatever the mobile content service shows.
Any ideas what might be happening here?

@Pchelolo Sounds like another case of reverts not triggering the expected invalidation rule, this time for /page/summary.

Hm.. I've looked into Kafka topics that should've triggered the update, but the topics have already rolled over, so there's no way of knowing whether the message was missed or something else happened.

I've double-checked the regexes we use to rerender summaries and everything seem to be correct there. Maybe a varnish purge was missed.

Can't really do anything about this any more
