Currently there is a property for chessboards in Forsyth-Ewards Notation ( https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Property:P6648 ).
Similar to musical notation, maybe specialized editors would find it helpful if that was displayed directly as a chessboard. It's currently (partially) done through LUA on some of the item's talk pages. Sample at https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Talk:Q62092390

Similar to how (frow what I can tell) score is rendered using the MediaWiki-extensions-Score extension native functionality, it should be pretty easy to add rending of just a fen to ChessBrowser, which could be used (assuming T244075: Deploy ChessBrowser extension to Beta Cluster moves forward). Would the wikidata team be open to this?
