How to make it obvious that one has to scroll down in special:preferences?
Open, Needs TriagePublic

Description

Setup

  • MediaWiki – 1.34.0-wmf.15 (rMW9bfd06f7850c) 31. Jul. 2019, 18:18
  • MonoBook – (6a32ca8) 21. Jul. 2019, 20:11
  • Firefox – 68.0.1 (64-Bit)
  • Linux Mint – 18.3 Cinnamon (64-Bit)

Issue
It is not obvious that one has to scroll to see all user preference options. If you use just the tabs than there are occasions that you do not intuitively get the idea that it is necessary to scroll down to see the whole lot of adaptable preferences. Hence it will be great if there is some way to indicate this at the bottom. See the screenshot.

Not just MonoBook, it's all skins.

Mind you, I just tried to replicate it in general and it looks like... the whole thing is now just totally broken in firefox? Basically the footer isn't sticking at all, or will randomly jump to the bottom of the view several seconds after the fact... it's actually possible this is being caused by some sort of attempt to fix the posted issue, though, since the scrollbar is back with this problem, which helps. Or would, if we wouldn't be getting a page footer randomly stuck on top of content as a result.

Isarra edited projects, added MediaWiki-Core-Preferences, OOUI; removed MonoBook.

Basically someone who has more of an idea what's going on with both of these will need to sort it out. I've definitely seen the originally described issue and can confirm it at least was a thing at some point, but now I'm getting another, possibly related, issue when trying to replicate it (on de.wp, firefox 68.0/68.0.1).

Indeed, we are talking about Fx 68.0.1 (64-Bit) in my case. Will add this to the issue description.

New/other issue?

I get this too, but since I am on Linux Mint I cannot do a screenshot. As soon as I attempt the view fixes itself. This is probably another issue.

Whoo!

So that just leaves us with the affordances issue about indicating the need to scroll in the first place. Maybe with the scrollbar present it's good enough, but given some browsers/environments don't necessarily show one... hmm.

Removing OOUI project tag here, already tagged correctly otherwise.
