User research: Perception of translation suggestions
Open, MediumPublic

Description

Content translation provides users with recommended articles to translate. Currently, these suggested articles are based on the recommendation API (same used in GapFinder) which provides either general suggestions or similar suggestions to a given article (recent edits, when available, in the case of Content Translation).

We are considering how to provide users with more control to get suggestions closer to their interests. Different approaches are explored (T113257), and we want to learn about:

  • Which are the user needs in terms of personalization (e.g., do they need to be able to obtain articles about "rivers in the north of Germany", or is it enough to get suggestions about "Geography"?)
  • How well is the current system and the explored ideas covering those needs.

This study is not limited to small wikis, but could also include them to expand our knowledge about them. More details will be defined.
