Steward access on Beta Cluster for Tulsi Bhagat
Closed, DeclinedPublic

Description

Dear Beta Cluster Team,
Greetings from Nepal!

On Wikimedia projects, I am an OTRS member, Global Rollbacker and Sysop on Meta-Wiki, Commons, MediaWiki, Nepali and Maithili Wikipedia. For more info, Tulsi Bhagat and CentralAuth.

Coming year, I wanna be more limitless and want to do as more as I can. Before that I would like to test functions which I haven't yet access it on original wikis. For instance, CentralAuth interface, global rename, CNBanner, etc.

Can i get Steward access on Beta Cluster? My account on Beta Cluster is Tulsi Bhagat. Thank you for your consideration!

Kind regards,
Tulsi Bhagat

Event Timeline

@Tulsi_Bhagat you appear to have admin rights on beta commons but to have never used them... what will you use these for?

@DannyS712 Yes, I have got it yesterday only. I will use it anytime soon to experiment for Upload Wizard of Wiki Loves Love 2020 (I am on the international team of Wiki Loves Love 2020 to manage various stuffs). Also, I've already mentioned on the task description, I will be using Steward access to test functions such as CentralAuth, global rename, CNBanner so on.

I am afraid that the reason is not convincing. Beta Cluster exists for developers to test new code before it arrives to the production wikis. Beta Cluster is explicitly not a test wiki but a working environment.

To be completely honest, I am not a developer, and I wouldn't write new code. I just wanted the access to check out the interface and test editing various scripts a bit.

+ 1 to MarkAurelio. I don't see a valid need for this. Steward access is extremely powerful and sensitive even on beta cluster! You are not a developer nor I am convinced that you'd not break anything. I can not trust you with Steward rights. The way you are showing off your rights, gives me the feeling that you are hat collecting. I don't think any CN admin/Global renamer ever tested those rights on beta cluster before they got them. Only right I know that where a requestee needs to test it before requesting it, is GWToolset because it mass-uploads content and has a complicated UI. Global renamer, CN, CentralAuth user interfaces, on the other hand, are pretty simple.

@Masumrezarock100 I understand your view and that's okay. Everyone has their own perspective to see things. It might seems like I am showing off my rights, but it's nothing like that. I know me very well, and I am definitely not the one who do show off. I believe in doing things rather than speaking. I am an active user across Wikimedia, and I do activities and help whenever someone needs it. It's not like that I am abusing my rights or not using it. I am contributing to the projects to the best of my knowledge.

Krenair subscribed.

beta is not intended for playing with various restricted MW functionality, it is for developers to test changes before they go out to production

@Krenair I appreciate it. Thank you for clarifying. I was like I can test minorly, but It's like Beta Cluster is more a developer wiki.
