Global login problems, ReFill tool
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

Don't know what it is, but I keep having difficulties with the global login, also after using the ReFill tool, I need to login constantly. Wondering if a rename of my account would make sense. Thank you for your time

  1. to use reFill, go https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sp%C3%A9cial:Contributions/Lotje
  2. follow https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Zhaofeng_Li/reFill
  3. toollabs:refill --> fill in Human Capital (2019 film)
  4. https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Human_Capital_%282019_film%29&action=submit
  5. https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Human_Capital_%282019_film%29&action=submit --> You are not logged in. Your IP address will be publicly visible if you make any edits. If you log in or create an account, your edits will be attributed to a user name, among other benefits.
  6. Logging again and ''show preview'' on the bottom of the page, correct where possible and "publish"

What does it mean "having problems"?

Hi @Lotje, thanks for taking the time to report this and welcome to Wikimedia Phabricator!
Please always add a complete description to this task. That should be

  • a clear list of exact steps to reproduce the situation, step by step, so that nobody needs to guess or interpret how you performed each step,
  • what happens after performing these steps to reproduce,
  • what you expected to happen instead,
  • a full link to a web address where the issue can be seen.

You can edit the task description by clicking Edit Task. Ideally, a good description should allow any other person to follow these steps (without having to interpret steps) and see the same results. Problems that others can reproduce can get fixed faster. We appreciate people who report issues, so thanks again!

The steps above are a bit confusing and still ignore the points in T248259#5990068, so I tried this:

  1. I go to https://en.wikipedia.org/ and I see that I am logged in
  2. I go to https://tools.wmflabs.org/refill/
  3. Under "Fetch content from a wiki", I enter Human Capital (2019 film) as Page Name, and en as Wikipedia.
  4. I click "Fix page"
  5. My browser goes to https://tools.wmflabs.org/refill/ng/result/fixWikipage/87bbd500-c24b-4bfa-b2ad-2e149d03e319
  6. I click the Preview/Save button at the bottom
  7. A new window opens at https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Human_Capital_%282019_film%29&action=submit

I am logged in. Cannot reproduce a problem with Chromium 80.

Please provide your full list of steps, browser information, browser version information, etc.

I followed the exact steps Lotje provided. I went to her contribution on frwiki, clicked on Refill, which led me to enwiki. There I clicked on the toollabs link. I filled in the given title and I am still logged in. So it seems more like an issue on Lotjes computer and not an issue with the Mediawiki software nor the toollabs software.
So I advise Lotje to use a different browser and don't use incognito mode. And disable any browser extensions that do something with cookies. Possibly one of them interferes.

Thank you for your time Mbch331. I tried the word [https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Coin&type=revision&diff=947626818&oldid=947610147 coin]. Now, after clicking the Preview/Save button at bottom, I get https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Coin&action=submit and nothing happens, the page is blank, apart from a tekst appearing on the bottom:
: ''Deze tekst is gewijzigd in Internet Explorer om scripting om meerdere websites te helpen voorkomen''. I guess I am too stupied for that kind of stuff.

That means the XSS filter of Internet Explorer triggered I think... I believe that is specific to IE8 or IE9 though, both really old and unsupported browsers.

ReFill is POST'ing a self built editform to action=submit of the English Wikipedia. Not too strange that that trips some filters.

"Miracles do happen", one would think, but this was not a miracle. Someone out here must have worked hard to fix this. Thank you very much. :)- ~~~~

Closing this. For future reference, https://tools.wmflabs.org/refill/ links to https://github.com/zhaofengli/refill/issues - please file requests there, as its maintainers do not use Wikimedia Phabricator to track requests. Thanks!
