Sorry, these are all subtasks of the parent task of switching to local-only descriptions on enwiki,
Technically there's nothing blocking us from showing local-only descriptions in our search results. However that would lead to a confusing user experience because we would still allow the user to *edit* the description. But the edit will go to Wikidata, and it will appear like the user's edit had no effect. This is why we need the description editing API that will handle the special case of writing local descriptions, and only then can we switch the description presentation everywhere else in the app.
I think the new editing API may take a while to actually materialize (as there are higher priorities for Core Platform at the moment). Would it be possible to just disable description editing on English Wikipedia on Android in the meantime? I imagine it's already confusing to users since about half the English Wikipedia articles are using local descriptions now rather than Wikidata descriptions.
As far as we heard from @eprodromou this was the very next thing on Core Platform's list of things to build, and was meant to have been started two weeks ago. Has that changed? If so, we were not informed.
@Charlotte - I don't see that information reflected in Phabricator. Right now T257944 is the "Feature Requests to Review" column of the Platform Engineering board. That doesn't sound like it's ready to be worked on. But maybe Evan just hasn't moved it to a more appropriate column yet. @eprodromou, can you clarify?
