If you want people to edit a page, semiprotect it, or don't protect at all.
If you want them to be able to edit pages in MediaWiki: interface, this is not going to be implemented because it will every random user to change site inteface and JavaScript.

Please clarify what you are requesting.

No, that's not what's being requested. MediaWiki: pages are restricted in a different way (editinterface) than pages protected through normal means.

Creating a new protection level for confirmed users and sysops seems like the sanest approach to me.

Perhaps flagged revs might be more appropriate for what you want?

Using user numbers to justify anything is suboptimal especially with our global accounts system (for example I have accounts on 68~ wikis, i'm active on two of them).

Let's just keep it on this bug. It's basically a different way of fulfilling the same request.
