[INITIATIVE] Deploy a production environment for wikibase.cloud
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

Product requirements

  • Wikibase.cloud should maintain feature parity with wbstack.com as of Dec 2021 unless otherwise advised by the engineering team. E.g. ability to require people to be invited to a Wiki to edit it/create account; spam protection; custom logo uploads
  • Known exception(s) to the above: (1) Federated Properties is not intended to be available to users in the initial launch
  • Wikibase.cloud should strive to offer the same extensions included with the WB containerized releases (Winter 2021 version). If a component is included in the container release but not WBstack.com, we can discuss how valuable it is to the initial launch
  • When making decisions necessary for this initiative, we should strive to ensure that the migration path from WBstack.com to Wikibase.cloud is not rendered too complex due to differences in software components, etc.

Technical requirements:

  • Wikibase.cloud and its components should stay secure and updated.

Per discussion on 17-January between PM and engineering representatives, it is believed Wikibase.cloud need integration tests for things such as whether changes to wiki configuration actually show up on the wiki, etc.

Event Timeline

As noted in child ticket T299127, the functionality, features, and extensions of Wikibase.cloud have been determined.

The initially launched Wikibase.cloud platform will consist of the following. "We have decided to maintain the documented WBstack.com functionality, with the exception of support for the experimental feature Federated Properties v1. In comparison to the Wikibase Suite containerized releases, Wikibase.cloud will not include the Babel or Local Media extensions at initial launch. This will be tackled in future iterations of the Wikibase.cloud platform."
