Spelling variant of the Lemma - Showing language related variants when the user makes the lookup field active
Closed, DeclinedPublic

Description

As a Lexeme creator I want to see the spelling variants prioritized that are likely to be used for the language of my Lexeme in order to pick the right spelling variant.

Problem:
We want to make it easier to select the spelling variants that are closely associated with the language of the Lexeme.

Example:
https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Lexeme:L1 with sux-xsux and sux-latn

Mockup:
https://www.figma.com/file/XoYktoKEBnC0VIf1SRuxJK/Lexicographical-Data-UI?node-id=493%3A2733

BDD
GIVEN a spelling variant lookup
THEN the spelling variants used in other Lexemes of the same language are shown first

Acceptance criteria:

  • the spelling variant lookup prioritizes spelling variants that are used on Lexemes of the same language

Notes:

  • We are going to build a lookup table based on the data that is currently in Wikidata. Aka: analyze which languages use which spelling variants and then offer those as suggestions.

Event Timeline

Lydia_Pintscher lowered the priority of this task from High to Medium.

TODO: Think about if it makes sense to still do this or if there are few enough cases to not make it worth it.

After some more thought I'm marking this as declined. I think we should instead spend time on better inferring of language codes.
