Hello I'm Sai Teja Anantha, I went through the Wikimedia contributing guidelines and learned that we have to assign the task ourselves but I couldn't understand how it works, kindly help me to do that.

I want to work on this task, I should go to the link and click edit source, then convert the curved apostrophe to the straight one and publish changes, @Xaosflux Please correct me if I'm wrong?

Hello, you would not use that link to fix this problem. Yes, we could to to the page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MediaWiki:Cx-source-page-selector-no-suggestions and make an edit there, but that would just make an override of one message, on one project. This request is to fix the source file from the extension that is the default value for this message. It is not really "easy" to start contributing software patches, when comparing it to contributing wiki content, but it is open to anyone. You can read more about getting started on that here: https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/How_to_become_a_MediaWiki_hacker

As far as assigning the task, just click edit task, then put your name in. I don't suggest you "claim" the task until you are sure you are able to make contributions first (see the link above).
