SRE Clinic Duty Confirmation Checklist for Access Requests

This checklist should be used on all access requests to ensure that all steps are covered, including expansion to existing access. Please double check the step has been completed before checking it off.

This section is to be confirmed and completed by a member of the SRE team.

  • - User has signed the L3 Acknowledgement of Wikimedia Server Access Responsibilities Document.
  • - User has a valid NDA on file with WMF legal. (All WMF Staff/Contractor hiring are covered by NDA. Other users can be validated via the NDA tracking sheet)
  • - User has provided the following: wikitech username, email address, and full reasoning for access (including what commands and/or tasks they expect to perform)

@Aline_Bruenger_WMDE given that the access to analytics-privatedata-users can be setup in different ways based on what you need, could you please clarify which kind of access do you need exactly? Please refer to https://wikitech.wikimedia.org/wiki/Analytics/Data_access#Access_Levels for all the details.

Volans triaged this task as Medium priority.Jul 29 2022, 10:11 AM

@Volans For now, the purpose is only pulling numbers which can be done without ssh, but I'll probably be asked to build recurring reports like this one in 1-2 months, for which I'd need Hive access.
To err on the side of caution, I could open another access request once that is needed.

@Aline_Bruenger_WMDE ok, let's proceed for the simple access for now and you can always request to integrate it later on.

@KFrancis could you please confirm the NDA status for Aline?

Volans added subscribers: odimitrijevic, Ottomata.

@Ottomata or @odimitrijevic: your approval is needed as analytics-privatedata-users group owner.

Dzahn changed the task status from Open to In Progress.Jul 29 2022, 5:38 PM
Dzahn assigned this task to odimitrijevic.

@Volans I am confirming Aline's signed NDA. Please proceed with the access request. Thanks!

Thanks @KFrancis I am taking over as this week's clinic duty. Going ahead.

This has been done now. User alinebruenger has been created in production and is in the analytics-privatedata-users group but without SSH access.

@Aline_Bruenger_WMDE Please let us know if it works for you.

@Dzahn I can now access the tables I need, thanks a lot!
