Let panorama images overflow content-width like wide-tables do
Open, LowPublicFeature

Description

Feature summary:

  • Enable Panorama images to overflow the fixed-width layout, just like wide-tables currently do (example)

Use case:

  • As a reader, I want to be able to see the entirety of wide/panorama images, without having to either scroll them, or open them

Benefits:

  • Seeing the full image, without needing to open it in MediaViewer first...
    • gives me a more immediate-appreciation for the full(er) scope of the image, which I otherwise might not notice (because horizontal scrollbars are easy to ignore)

Yeah! I think that looks great.

The display of https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sixth_Amendment_to_the_United_States_Constitution?useskin=vector-2022 with the toggle set to "wide" but with any reasonably sized monitor resolution probably needs to be of interest here.

FWIW. The fact wide tables spill out of the page is a "bug" (T66577)
The introduction of page tools on the right of the page also opens up questions about how we would do this.
