Description

Test Scope
The Wikimedia Foundation asked us to use the copy they use in their fundraising banners. We want to test the effect of it.

Acceptance Criteria

  • The banners are based on last year's control banner of last year's desktop-en-07.
  • Both banners contain
    • the progress bar.
    • the average donation amount of €22.25.
    • the dynamic visitors-vs-donors sentence.
    • the dynamic campaign day sentence.
    • an updated (and preliminary) version of the use of funds content.
    • "Wikimedia e. V." as the holder of the bank account.
  • The banners use the copy defined in the table below.
  • Screenshots of the banners are created and uploaded to Shutterbug.
  • The submit button logs the viewport dimensions (see T349187: Log viewport measurements on submit events, you need to change event_map.ts)

Full copy headlineℹ️ To all our readers in Germany,ℹ️ "Wikipedia is not for sale." – A personal appeal from Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales
Full copy paragraph #1This {{ currentDayName }}, {{ currentDate }}, with only a few weeks before 2023 comes to an end, we humbly ask for your support. We are the nonprofit that collects donations on Wikipedia to support free knowledge. If you can, please join the 1% of readers who give. If everyone reading this right now gave just €5, we'd hit our annual goal in a couple of hours. The price of a cup of coffee is all we ask. It's easy to ignore our messages, but we hope you'll take one minute to think about how useful Wikipedia is in your life. Online, Wikipedia is the closest thing we have to a public park or a library where everyone can go to learn. If Wikipedia has given you €5 worth of knowledge this year, please support the technology that makes our projects possible and advance the cause of free knowledge worldwide. — Wikimedia DeutschlandPlease don't ignore this 1-minute read. This {{ currentDayName }}, {{ currentDate }}, I ask you to reflect on the number of times you visited Wikipedia in the past year, the value you got from it, and whether you're able to give 5€ back. If you can, please join the 1% of readers who give. If everyone reading this right now gave just 5€, we'd hit our goal in a couple of hours.
Full copy paragraph #2It's hard to know what to trust online these days. Disinformation and scammers are everywhere. Wikipedia is different. It's not perfect, but it's not here to make a profit or to push a particular perspective. It's written by everyone, together. Wikipedia is something we all share, like a library or a public park. We are passionate about our model because we want everyone to have equal access to quality information - something that is becoming harder and harder to find online.
Full copy paragraph #3If Wikipedia has given you 5€ worth of knowledge this year, please give back. There are no small contributions: every edit counts, every donation counts. Thank you.

AbbanWMDE subscribed.

@kai.nissen The CTRL copy looks like it's for late campaign.

@AbbanWMDE Some things need to be fixed:

  • When closing the banners, they request "Special:HideBanners". They only do it for enwiki, but for consistency we should probably change this and apply the manual cookie change here, too.
  • None of the submit events are triggered.
  • The banners are about 20 pixels higher compared to last year.
  • The variant banner is using the slide copy of the control banner.
  • At 1580px width the font size is drastically reduced. Is there a reason for this?
  • Firefox seems to have issues with the spacing between the border and the banner copy.

  • The font size can become very small and very large. Is there a way to prevent this?

Sorry, there's another change request:
The sentence "Wikipedia is not for sale." should be put in quotation marks and separated from the following sentence by a dash. I changed the task description accordingly. While at it, can you please also change the blue icon in the non-slider to the red one that's used in the slides?

Okay, should be done now. I guess the mobile banner will need it too.

It's in quotes now, but the dash is still missing. Also, the non-slider should use the red info icon (both control and variant banner).

Okay, fixed. It should also work with the new Use of Funds.
