Technical note when its investigated: different VPNs have different responses.

@ZLima12 would be mind sharing which VPN app you're using to help our investigation

@JTannerWMF I am using the WireGuard app. This issue has occurred with all versions of both that app and the Wikipedia app for at least the last six months. The issue likely has existed for longer than that, but I only started using the Wikipedia app then.
